Mr. & Mrs. Elias Weiss of New York inaugurated the Jeffrey Weiss Award Competition in 1984. Their son Jeffrey had a lifelong interest in theatres and was a member of the THS from 1974 until his death in 1982. The Weiss family endowed an annual competition to honor and perpetuate their son’s memory.

  Competition Rules:

The competition is open to everyone, except members of the Weiss Committee, members of the Weiss family, or THS officers, board members or their immediate families.

(Article III): The Society’s interest shall include all buildings designed or primarily and regularly used for the exhibition of stage or motion picture presentations, and the equipment related to those buildings. All periods of… theatre design and construction shall be considered to have equal historic interest.

Playwrights, performers, producers, motion pictures, organs, musicians, etc. except as they relate directly to the physical object of the theatre, shall be considered peripheral to the Society’s field of interest
