University Archivist (tenure track)
  

Kent State University Libraries and Media Services invites applications for the position of University Archivist.  Reporting to the Curator of Special Collections and Archives, the position will administer the University Archives program including acquiring, appraising, processing, preserving, and providing effective access to historically significant records, in all formats, created by and about Kent State University. The University Archivist plays an important role in the University’s records retention program and will provide leadership in identifying and managing the long-term preservation of and access to electronic records. The position also participates in instruction, reference assistance, and collection development of collections that are part of University Archives including the May 4 Collection. Manages special projects related to University Archives collections including digitization of selected materials and creation of exhibitions.

  
Environment:  

The Kent State University Libraries have a collection of over 2 million volumes and hold membership in the Association of Research Libraries and the Center for Research Libraries. Kent State University is a founding member of OCLC and of OhioLINK (http://www.ohiolink.edu), Ohio 's statewide information system.  Special Collections & Archives has a physical collection of over 90,000 volumes and over 10,000 cubic feet of archival and manuscript collections.  The Department serves a diverse population of local and remote users including a large number of undergraduate students.

  
Salary and Rank:

$51,333.  Faculty status, Assistant Professor rank.  Tenure track.

Required Qualifications:

1. MLS from an ALA-accredited program.  2. Significant professional experience in the administration and management of an archives program.  3.  Familiarity with archival theory, practice, and standards.  4.  Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.  5.  Flexibility and initiative.  8.  Ability and interest in fulfilling requirements of job performance, scholarship, and service to meet tenure and promotion requirements.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Formal training in archives administration.  2. Experience with Encoded Archival Description.  3. Experience with digitization projects.  4. Supervisory experience in a relevant setting.  5. Knowledge of records management theory and practice. 6. Experience in goal setting, development, and execution of projects.  6. Evidence of research or professional achievement.
