Remember we debated some time back the extent to which people are or
are not comfortable with a virtual online presence? I think it was in
January and started out with the issue of online cataloging, records of
books, etc. I then noted that everything I write online I write with
an eye to it being read by anyone and everyone. I am a moderate and a
centrist by nature and inclination. Nevertheless, I think carefully
before I post under my own name or even anonymously. But I basically
feel I have nothing to hide in my online presence, which centers on
historical, archival and records issues.

I recently posted to the Archives List the question about the NYT
breaking the NARA reclassification story that I had posed in an online
chat to Dana Priest, the Washington Post's columnist. I did that
knowing that while I posted my question anoymously (which is how the
WaPo online chats are set up), telling you all about it on this List
meant my identity as the questioner would be revealed online.

Remember, Dana Priest is the WaPo national security correspondent.
Interesting to see her reply to another question near the end of
today's online chat:

"Fort Collins, Colo.: The recently announced crack down on leaks would
seem to target you (among others). Without giving out trade secrets or
compromising your own security, how has this affected you and your
work? Do you think that this discussion is being 'monitored'?

Dana Priest: Yes, it is being monitored. Can't help you with the other
questions."
