Thank you to everyone who has given me suggestions on my topic. All of you
have been so helpful! Unfortunately, I don't think I stated my topic
clearly enough. When I speak of culturally sensitive materials in the
archives sense, I was referring to items that would be offensive to a
large portion of the general public, particularly those demeaning specific
ethnic/racial/religious groups. In many cases, people mentioned in the
collections that were engaged in illicit activities the materials describe
might be more offended than the actual groups victimized, though. For
instance, collections on the Ku Klux Klan or the Holocaust. I realize now
that "culturally sensitive materials" might not be the best label but I
wasn't sure how else to phrase it. Although I haven't been able to get my
hands on it yet, the SAA 2002 annual meeting had a great session
titled "Sticky Wickets: The Ethics of Equal Access, Sensitive Content, and
On-going Relationships" which I think might be along the lines of what I'm
interested in.

Thanks everyone,
