Are you interested in moderating a session at SSA in El Paso (May 25-27,
2006)?

The panel, "Behind-the-Scenes: Performing arts collections in the archives,"
has already been put together and accepted - the only thing we lack is a
moderator.

Speakers on the panel include:

Martha Shipman Andrews (New Mexico State University): Documenting the "Voice
of the Great Southwest: the papers of radio pioneer, Ralph W. Goddard."

Pati Threatt (McNeese State University, LA): "Six Months in Seer-sucker:
managing theatre collections."

Katie Salzmann (Texas State University): "Gus' Final Resting Place: The
Lonesome Dove film archives."

Session Description: This session examines the unique challenges associated
with processing and preserving performing arts collections. The presenters
will explore the special circumstances of managing film, theatre [and
television/radio] collections, including the challenges of collecting and
preserving production materials and providing access to materials for
research. Performing arts collections often present unique challenges due to
the types of materials, such as script books, props and multi-media formats,
industry-related terminology, and also from the ephemeral nature of the
materials.
