Dear List,

We have need to copy an original blueprint (blue line on white paper,
some discoloration of the paper) which measures approximately 40 inches
x 16 feet. Preferably we would like to produce a copy that is true to
size, 100% with no reduction. There are three small tears along the
sides, about 1 inch in length that have us concerned about copying via
feeding through an architect's standard copier. We do have a commercial
firm locally that can duplicate the print but it requires being fed
through their copier.

Any suggestions as to how to create as detailed a copy with as little
damage to the original? Are there large scale flat bed scanners or
copiers out there that do not require feeding the original through the
machinery? An alternate option: are there hand held scanners we could
use to run over the surface of the original which we could then stitch
the multiple scans together into one document that could be printed?

Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We do not wish to cause
more damage, however, for preservation reasons, and as part of a request
from the donor, we need to create high quality clear copies.

Thank you all in advance for your time and consideration in this matter.
I look forward to receiving your thoughts.

Sincerely,
Pamela L. Speis
