DUTIES: Incumbent performs para-professional and technical archives work as a member of the Collections Processing Unit of the Archives of American Art (AAA). He/she will be responsible for work conducting detailed physical condition surveys of archives and manuscript collections, according to an established work plan and methodology in support of a special grant project. Physically examines, assesses, analyzes, and rates the physical condition and archival housing of assigned collections, and completes the necessary information on survey forms. The incumbent will handle fragile historical materials, identify archival primary source materials, original artwork, and original photographs, and assess the archival quality of collections housing materials. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and which is typically in or related to the work of the position as described above. NOTE: The Smithsonian does not recognize academic degrees from schools that are not accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the Department of Education.
