RAIN 060321 Records and Archives In the News is a compilation of news stories related to records and archives management. New York Times 3/19/06 How Pop Sounded Before It Popped By JODY ROSEN FOR a couple of months now my iPod has been stuck on Stella Mayhew's "I'm Looking for Something to Eat." It's a lurching little waltz-time pop tune, drawled over brass-band accompaniment. The lyric is hilarious, the lament of a gal on a diet who can't stop eating, and it climaxes with a glutton's soul cry: "I want some radishes and olives, speckled trout and cantaloupe and cauliflower/ Some mutton broth and deviled crabs and clams and Irish stew." I can't get it out of my head - so far, it's my favorite record of 2006. <http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/19/arts/music/19rose.html> New York Times 3/19/06 The Theater of the Street, the Subject of the Photograph By PHILIP GEFTER IN 1999 Philip-Lorca diCorcia set up his camera on a tripod in Times Square, attached strobe lights to scaffolding across the street and, in the time-honored tradition of street photography, took a random series of pictures of strangers passing under his lights. The project continued for two years, culminating in an exhibition of photographs called "Heads" at Pace/MacGill Gallery in Chelsea. "Mr. diCorcia's pictures remind us, among other things, that we are each our own little universe of secrets, and vulnerable," Michael Kimmelman wrote, reviewing the show in The New York Times. "Good art makes you see the world differently, at least for a while, and after seeing Mr. diCorcia's new 'Heads,' for the next few hours you won't pass another person on the street in the same absent way." But not everyone was impressed. <http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/19/arts/design/19phot.html> Information Week The High Cost Of Data Loss Sensitive personal data has been misplaced, lost, printed on mailing labels, posted online, and just left around for anyone to see.
