Dr. John L. Ferguson, former Director of the Arkansas History Commission and State Archives in Little Rock, died suddenly Saturday, March 25, 2006. He directed the archives from 1960 until ill health forced him into retirement last May. He was an old fashioned "gentleman and a scholar", an authority on the American Civil War, and a mentor of young historians and archivists. His wit and wisdom will be missed. He was 80. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Russell P.
