To support the Duke Human Rights Initiative (http://www.duke.edu/web/rightsatduke/) and promote scholarship and learning related to human rights issues, the Duke University Libraries are currently recruiting for the new position of Human Rights Archivist in the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library (RBMSCL). A number of collections in RBMSCL document rights violations and rights-related movements, both domestically and internationally. In the past few years RBMSCL has sought to expand its holdings in this area by acquiring the records of human rights organizations and activists. The Human Rights Archivist will provide leadership for this ongoing effort.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS and/or advanced degree in archives administration or other relevant field. Requires working knowledge of standard archival and library procedures typically acquired through at least one year of relevant experience; ability to relate effectively with users and donors of archival material; and demonstrated knowledge of and interest in human rights. Prefer reading and speaking knowledge of Spanish, Arabic or other relevant languages; prior experience in the acquisition of manuscript and archival collections and other library materials; and previous experience in processing and describing of archival collections.
