Book Signing at the Lloyd Library

=20

Please join the Lloyd Library and the Cincinnati Parks Foundation for a
special afternoon with photographer Tom Schiff and author Owen Findsen =
as
they sign their spectacular book Panoramic Parks: An Appreciation of
Cincinnati=92s Parks at the Lloyd Library and Museum, Saturday, June 10, =
2006
from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Bring your books with you, or purchase =
yours
from the Cincinnati Parks Foundation ($49.95 plus 6.5% sales tax for a =
total
of $53.20). Copies will also be available at the book signing.

Thomas R. Schiff is a renowned photographer, a collector of photography, =
an
insurance executive, and a patron of the arts in Cincinnati, Ohio. =
Since
1994, he has worked with a Hulcherama 360 degree panoramic camera, =
traveling
the United States in search of inspiring subjects. In his hometown of
Cincinnati, Schiff has found inspiration in the city=92s beautiful and
historic parks.

Owen Findsen is a well-known Cincinnati-based writer. A Cincinnati =
native,
Findsen began his career at the Enquirer as a staff artist. He soon =
shifted
his talents to feature writing about art and artists, architecture, and
local history. For Panoramic Parks, Findsen wrote essays on the history =
of
Cincinnati=92s parks that beautifully complement Schiff=92s exquisite
photographs.

For this special event, the Lloyd Library and Museum will display some =
of
its most prized possessions in the exhibition Lloyd=92s Treasures: Rare,
Unique, and Beautiful. Featured items will include the Lloyd=92s oldest =
book,
a common book of herbal remedies printed in 1493; the Lloyd=92s biggest =
book,
James Bateman=92s The Orchidacea of Mexico and Guatemala; and a letter =
written
by Thomas Jefferson on December 14, 1813 from Monticello to Fran=E7ois =
Andr=E9
Michaux, a renowned French botanist. Also showcased will be several =
books
containing works by some of the most celebrated botanical illustrators =
of
all times, such as Pierre Joseph Redout=E9, Georgius Dionysius Ehret, =
and
Maria Sibylla Merian

The Lloyd Library and Museum, located at 917 Plum Street, downtown
Cincinnati, is a local and regional treasure. The library was developed =
in
the nineteenth century by the Lloyd brothers=97John Uri, Curtis Gates, =
and
Nelson Ashley to provide reference sources for Lloyd Brothers =
Pharmacists,
Inc., one of the leading pharmaceutical companies of the period. Today =
the
library is recognized worldwide by the scientific community as a vital
research center. The library holds, acquires, and provides access to =
both
historic and current materials on the subjects of pharmacy, botany,
horticulture, herbal and alternative medicine, pharmacognosy, and =
related
topics. Although our collections have a scientific focus, they also =
have
relevance to humanities topics, such as visual arts and foreign =
languages
through resources that feature botanical and natural history =
illustrations,
original artworks, and travel literature. The Lloyd is open to anyone =
with
an interest in these topics. For more information, visit the Lloyd =
website
at www.lloydlibrary.org.
