Head of Area Research Center and University Archives

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the University of
Wisconsin System, is located 30 miles from the Twin Cities of
Minneapolis-St. Paul in scenic west central Wisconsin. Year-round
arts, cultural and recreational events are easily accessible.
UW-RF’s 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students pursue degrees in four
colleges: Arts and Sciences; Education and Professional Studies;
Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Science; and Business and Economics.
The University provides an excellent environment for learning,
emphasizing the importance of faculty-student interaction in classrooms,
laboratories, academic advising, and co-curricular activities. A
favorable student-faculty ratio affords opportunity for meaningful
interchange between faculty and students. Strong interests in

The Position: The Head of Area Research Center and University
Archives is responsible for administering, developing, organizing,
processing, and providing appropriate access to materials held in the
Area Research Center and University Archives. The Head of Area
Research Center and University Archives also establishes policies and
procedures allowing for efficient operation of the University’s records
management program and provides reference and instruction to students,
faculty, staff, and community users related to Area Research Center and
University Archives resources. Reporting to the Library
Director, this position is expected to serve on Library, University, and
professional committees and foster communication and contribute to a
collaborative work environment within the library.
The position is a full-time professional academic support position.
Compensation is based on qualifications, including education and
experience.
Qualifications (Required):
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or related field
from an accredited university with minimum of three years of subsequent
library and/or archives related experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of archival management, records management,
and digital preservation issues
- Strong public service commitment; ability to work collaboratively;
demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in
writing
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student
populations and ability to contribute to the University’s commitment to
enhancing student awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and
cultural heritages.
Qualifications which may be considered assets:
- Formal coursework in archival administration
- Degree in American History
- Knowledge of current library and archival descriptive and metadata
standards (e.g., Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS) or
Encoded Archival Description (EAD))
- Experience with web design
