Typically, the archive profession tries to keep on par with librarian's salaries/hourly wages.  The starting hourly wage for a librarian in New Jersey is $23.78/hour however, it also depends on your qualifications, i.e., degrees, certifications, etc.  You will want to find out what the starting hourly wage of New York is but I would say ask for at least $20-24.
