- Description: The New Jersey Hispanic Research and
Information Center / Newark Public Library wishes to hire five part-time,
graduate students/fellows to prepare detailed community profiles for five
Hispanic groups in New Jersey.
The completed profiles will become part of the Research Collection of
the NJHRIC.
- Duties: Research Fellows will be trained and
work under the guidance and supervision of the Research Director. Each Fellow will conduct in-depth
research about one specific Hispanic community in New Jersey during the first
phase of the project (June-August) and prepare a complete written profile
during the second phase (September-December). Information will incorporate
current demographic data, employment patterns, geographic distribution and
educational levels.
Profiles will also include information on each group’s historical
presence in New Jersey, their social, cultural, civic, political and
educational organizations, and their contributions to New Jersey. After the initial training
sessions Fellows will meet individually with the Research Director at regular
intervals during the duration of the project.

research skills, including experience with search engines/search strategies
and familiarity with online reference materials and
databases
- Demonstrate excellent
writing skills and be comfortable with Windows-based operating
systems
- Have a background in
Latino/Hispanic studies and good working knowledge of the Spanish language
- Work well
independently, with guidance from Research Director, and
meet deadlines
