More information can be found at the Library's Web site: http://libweb.princeton.edu Description: Reporting to the Assistant University Archivist for Technical Services the individual hired in this position will assist in managing a data conversion project to encode over 1000 archival finding aids in XML using the Encoded Archival Description (EAD) standard. The Project Manager will work closely with the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections EAD working group, maintain and manage communications with outside vendors, and supervise the work of interns and students who will assist with creating content and other in-house conversion efforts. In conjunction with the EAD working group, the Project Manager will develop project plans and schedules and will provide daily coordination of the project. The Project Manager will serve as the department's primary contact with the conversion vendor, including tracking, sending and receiving files, performing quality control and providing feedback on vendor work, and informing the committee on ongoing issues and problems. Oversees in-house processes including working with departmental staff to restructure findings aids, reviewing and editing work created within the department to ensure that content of finding aids adheres to local and national guidelines, and the ingest of completed files. When necessary performs data entry and encodes finding aids. The Project Manager will track progress, schedule meetings, prepare agenda and reports, and ensure that project goals are met. Qualifications: Required: Masters degree in library science, archival studies or related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of archival theory and practice and descriptive standards, including EAD and MARC. Strong project management skills, and experience leading or coordinating small groups and team projects. Strong technical skills, including standard office applications, as well knowledge of HTML, XML, or other encoding schemes. Preferred: Supervisory experience. Knowledge of a computer scripting language such as Perl. Experience writing and maintaining XSL stylesheets. Compensation and Benefits: Salary based on experience and qualifications.
