Well, Archival is as Archival does,

First, to address a later posting in the thread, if they were published byy
hte school they are permanent. They were given to the library. So those two
issues are out.

The main question as I see it is what does the collection bring to the
picture. Here we move from the science of Archives to the art (you know the
part that drives Records Managers and accountants over the edge) of the
discipline. How do YOU feel about the the collections reelvant importance?
Does it feel right to keep the collection? Usually if it feels "right" then
it is. Push comes to shove get the Head of Special Collections to back you
(I am sure he will).

Subject: Keeping Textbooks?

This message was also posted to the College and University Archives Section
Listerve.

Hi Everyone:

I am interested to find out if there is anyone within the college and
university archives listserve who has had to contend with keeping or not
keeping old textbooks for their collections. Wanting to see what
justification was used for keeping or not keeping them. We have acquired
a large collection of them here at NMSU, and are in a dilemma of what to do.

Also interested in any policies developed for keeping old textbooks (if
anyone has developed one)

Many thanks,

Steve Hussman, Department Head for Archives and Special Collections
