LAW AND ORIGINAL ORDER: LEGAL ASPECTS OF ARCHIVES

Do you understand the basis of copyright law as it applies to archival material?  Do you know the context in which privacy legislation applies to archival documents?  This 1-day workshop will provide an awareness of legal issues that may arise in the course of archival activities, as well as the ethical obligations of acquisition/accessioning, appraisal, and access/reference services.  Through presentation and discussion, participants will become familiar with the general structure of the Canadian legal system and with legislative requirements concerning admissibility of archival records as evidence.

WORKSHOP LEADER

Loryl MacDonald has been the Records Archivist at the University of Toronto Archives since 2000. Prior to this, she held contract positions at the Archives of Ontario, the University of Toronto Archives, and York University Archives.
