America refused to intervene when mobs looted and burned the Iraqi National
Library and Archives in broad daylight.

April 14 Deadline for US House of Representatives testimony on NHPRC

April 14 Deadline for proposals for the National Film Preservation
Foundation's  "Avant- Garde Masters" film preservation grant program.
Interested archives must register by March 10, 2006.

April 15 On this date in 1935, the Roerich Pact was signed. It was one of
the earliest international agreements addressing cultural heritage. It
affirmed that monuments, museums, and scientific, artistic, educational, and
cultural institutions and their personnel were to be considered neutral in
times of war and accorded respect and protection in peacetime.

April 15 Deadline to apply for two scholarships offered by the Lesbian and
Gay Archives Roundtable (LAGAR) of the Society of American Archivists to
help with expenses for attending the SAA Annual Meeting in Washington DC,

April 15 Deadline for submissions to participate in International Archival
Day, to be held in Trieste, Italy, sometime in October. The meeting will
have two themes:  audio-visual archives and records and legislative and

April 17 Deadline for proposals for the Third International Conference on
the History of Records and Archives (I-CHORA), to be held Sept 27-29, 2007,

April 17 The Toronto Area Archivists Group will be joined at the Thomas

Review of Intellectual Property

s intellectual property framework. The Chancellor of the Exchequer initiated
the review in December 2005 and appointed Andrew Gowers to lead it. The

Industry and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport in Autumn

April 21 Provincial Archives of Alberta 21st Annual Film Night: Mel and
Ethel’s Adventurama: The Pan American Highway. Metro Cinema, Edmonton.

April 22 On this date in 2004, the National Library and Archives of Canada
Act received royal consent. The act combined Canada's separate national
library and archives into a single institution, the National Library and
Archives of Canada, created a new executive called the Librarian and
Archivist of Canada, and amended the Copyright Act.
