Archivist/Manuscript Cataloger (.75 FTE - Two Year Appointment with the
possibility of renewal)

Duke University Libraries is currently recruiting for a newly created
archivist/manuscript cataloger position that jointly reports to the Head of
the Accessioning and Processing Section in the Technical Services
Department of the Rare Book, Manuscript and Special Collections Library
(RBMSCL) and the Director of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women’s History
and Culture (SBC).  The Archivist/Manuscript Cataloger is responsible for
an array of Bingham Center technical services work and for providing
limited public services.

QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA-accredited MLS or advanced degree in history, cultural
studies, or a related field.  Requires working knowledge of standard
archival procedures typically acquired through one year or less of doing
archival processing; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
and ability to lift and carry heavy boxes weighing 30 pounds; and tolerance
of dirt, dust, and inactive mold spores.  Prefer prior experience using
Encoded Archival Description (EAD); working knowledge of computer-based
technology in libraries, including the use of an integrated library system;
and a working knowledge of principles for description of manuscript
collections, such as APPM or DACS.


SALARY AND BENEFITS:  This is a two year, .75FTE term appointment with the
possibility of renewal – work schedule is flexible and could be a
nine-month, full-time schedule or twelve-month, 30 hrs/wk schedule; salary
dependent on qualifications and experience; anticipated hiring range is
$28,500-$33,000 (annualized at $38,000 – $43,000); comprehensive benefits
package includes 15 days vacation, 13 holidays, sick leave; health, dental,
disability and life insurance; retirement plan options; and professional
development support.
