Paid Internship in Collections Management and Information at the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art.  (Funded by the Getty Grant Program)

Seeking a student Intern to work on a large, multifaceted electronic
cataloguing initiative being coordinated by the museum's Collections
Management and Information division. This CMS internship will provide the
student with hands-on exposure to the new area of digital image management
and the publication of online resources. Following an orientation to
collection services, the intern will be assigned such projects as:
researching artists or their estates for reproduction requests; preparing
promotional materials regarding the website; and updating automated
catalogue records by adding "deep data", such as bibliographical references,
exhibition histories, provenance, inscriptions, etc. The intern will also be
exposed to registration procedures, such as condition reporting, receipting,
etc. He/she will attend as many interdepartmental meetings and talks as
possible to gain an overview of museum operations in general.

The Collections Management internship is appropriate to students majoring in
art history, cultural anthropology, archaeology, museum studies, or
information management. Must be detail-oriented, computer-literate, and able
to multi-task and complete a variety of assignments.

Eligibility Criteria for Getty Grant Intern Candidates:

The Getty Multicultural Internship opportunities are intended for members of
the following minority groups under-represented in the professions related
to museums and the visual arts: individuals of African American, Asian,
Latino/Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander descent. Interns must
meet the following eligibility criteria: (1) s/he must be a currently
enrolled undergraduate and have completed at least one semester of college
by June 2006; (2) s/he will not graduate before December 2006; and (3) s/he
must be a resident of or attending college in the Los Angeles County.
Previous Getty multicultural interns of Los Angeles County Museum of Art or
other Getty multicultural interns who served at more than one other Getty
Grant sponsored internships are not eligible for consideration. LACMA staff
and relatives of LACMA board members are also not eligible.

Excellent computer skills, good communications skills, and knowledge of art
history preferred.

A stipend of $3,500 will be issued.  Internship will be for a ten week
period between June 5, 2006 and August 25, 2006.  Student must be available
full-time for 10 weeks between these dates.
