Jeffrey Young has another story about the NARA reclassification webposted on the Chronicle of Higher Education website today. I no longer subscribe to the CHE and cannot link you all to it. I read the story in Nexis today, however. I notice that it mentions the SAA statement and adds that: "Other prominent archivists, however, called for further steps to be taken to ensure transparency at the National Archives. Richard J. Cox, a professor of library and information sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, said in a message to an e-mail list for archivists that an independent group should investigate the incidents. "We need a much stronger, more independent National Archives," he said in an interview." If anyone can post a link to today's CHE so the rest of you can read the whole article, I'd appreciate it. Or, look for it in Nexis if you have access to it. Maarja A posting from the Archives & Archivists LISTSERV List sponsored by the Society of American Archivists, www.archivists.org.
