POSITION AVAILABLE:  Archival Specialist II - Pictorial Collections

 

The Hagley Museum and Library, an independent research library
specializing in business and technological history, is seeking an
archivist to work in the pictorial collections department, which houses
over two million unique items.  Under the direction of the Curator of
Prints and Photographs, the position's duties include processing
audiovisual collections and creating MARC records for them, performing
reference work for picture requests from library users and outside
researchers, and preparing and processing orders for photographic
reproduction. 

 

Requirements include an MLS, a graduate degree in an appropriate field,
or equivalent work experience, familiarity with MARC cataloging and
computer databases, lifting up to 25 pounds, and working up to six
regularly scheduled once-a-month Saturday library openings each year.

 

DUTIES:  

*         Accession, arrange, clean, box, and prepare finding aids for
AV collections, including some computer inputting.

*         Prepare and enter machine-readable cataloging records in RLIN
database and Hagley's Online Public Access Catalog.

*         Participate with other staff members in servicing collections
and working with collection users including retrieve and refile
material, answer mail and telephone research inquiries.

*         Assemble materials for photographic reproduction orders;
maintain photo order records; refile materials used in orders; add new
items created by photo orders to files.

*         Staff pictorial collections department as required for
Saturday openings.

*         Under the direction of the curator, aid in preparation of
Hagley Museum and Library exhibits.

*         Perform other duties as required by curator.
