Hello,
I am a library school student in New Jersey and have recently been approached about being the librarian for a small collection at a local volunteer run museum. While I do have some limited special library experience, and am currently a reference librarian trainee, I certainly do not claim to have much experience with a museum library, or with operating a small library at all. While I have not committed to doing it as of yet, I was considering taking on the challenge since I am the only volunteer there with any library experience.
That being said, I wanted to consult the list in an attempt to maybe get some feedback on a few different levels (based on your willingness and time!)
-Do you know of any good print or internet resources that could be consulted for operating a museum library: collection development policy, theory, acquisitions, scope, etc
-For any of you that are museum librarians or have worked in any capacity in a museum library, any words of advisement or concerns.
I really would like to have at least a minimal foundation of what things I would need to consider and do before I give them a solid committment. I only feel that is fair not only for me, but obviously for them as well.
Thanks so much (feel free to respond off-list)
-Doug
