Good morning from sunny San Francisco. I'm an old bond trader, trained in economics, still working the rich fields of interest rate fluctuations. But, in my wiser years, I've returned to my original research subject: establishment of property rights. To this end, I'm researching the effects on local trade and governments in the Indies of European exploration, trade, colonization, and conquest. Economists feel there is a rich source of data in the charters and instructions sent out with European ships and their masters. Research will show the effects of different government types on the East Indian economies and governments. I'm heading for Spain and Portugal to see some of the archives there. Two questions for the list. 1. Is anyone familiar with the Portuguese archives? I'm looking for maritime archives. 2. Has anyone gone to the Archivo Barzan (accent over the last a) in Spain? Thanks.
