Visiting Teaching Position
College of Information Studies

Description. The College of Information Studies invites 
applications for a full-time or part-time Visiting Assistant 
or Associate Professor or Professor position to teach, 
advise students, and support program review and development 
in the area of archival studies. Depending on qualifications 
the successful candidate may also pursue a program of 
research that will be agreed upon with the Dean of the 
College. Ranked #2 nationally, the Archives, Records, and 
Information Management Program at CLIS is a leading program 
in the field.  Within this specialization, students can also 
pursue dual Masters degrees in Library Science and History 
through the HiLS program.  The program takes full advantage 
of its location through collaboration with the National 
Archives and the wide range of institutions in the 
metropolitan Washington DC region. 
The University of Maryland is a leading Carnegie Extensive 
Research University.  Among its research centers are the 
Institute of Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS), the new 
Center for the Applied Study of Language, and the Center for

Qualifications. Ph.D. or equivalent degree in information 
studies, library science, public or business administration, 
computer science, or a related information field; or 
distinguished service in the field.  Teaching experience is 
required; demonstrated record of research accomplishments 
desirable.

Term of Contract. The position may be filled in August 2006 
or January 2007. Initially the appointment will be for 2 or 
3 years with the possibility of reappointment.
