NEW WESTERN ARCHIVES INSTITUTE ADMINISTRATOR ANNOUNCED

The California State Archives announces the appointment of Sydney Bailey as Administrator of the Western Archives Institute (WAI), effective August 1, 2006. 

Sydney Bailey has worked at the State Archives for over fifteen years and currently co-administers the State Records Appraisal program. She is also an active participant in professional organizations including the Society of California Archivists, SAA and NAGARA.  She received her Master's degree in Public History from California State University, Sacramento.  

As Administrator, she will lead the WAI Joint Management Committee, a committee of the Society of California Archivists and the State Archives, the co-sponsors of the program. Her duties will include all aspects of management of the annual two-week program. WAI provides basic instruction in archives theory and practice to individuals with little or no archival education, but who have responsibility for archival materials. 

Outgoing Administrator and State Archivist Nancy Zimmelman will become ex-officio member of the WAI Management Committee and will assist with transition. In addition, State Archives Executive Assistant Sherrie Lujan will provide administrative support for the program.
