Wow, thanks for the plug, Amy! All you said about the benefits of living in
San Marcos and working at Texas State are very true, in my biased opinion.
For example, a couple weeks ago I went kayaking with co-workers on the cool,
lazy San Marcos river (that runs right through campus) over lunch break. Now
how great is that?

The university archivist is a new position here, which surprised me because
this is a major university, over 100 years old. We have an impressive
collection of university archives though, and the two Southwestern Writers
Collection archivists, myself included, are especially excited to see this
position created. We won't be working on the same collections, but will be
sharing ideas, experiences, space, etc.

Then I heard The University of Texas at Austin--even bigger and even
older--has never had an official university archivist. Maybe it's more
common than I think, for major universities to go archivist-less, even into
the current day?
