Library Assistant Martha’s Vineyard Historical Society The Martha’s Vineyard Historical Society has an immediate opening for a part-time Assistant Librarian at the Gale Huntington Library. The Library’s Special Collections consist of photographs, rare maps and charts, books, letters, and manuscripts. The successful candidate will work closely with the Librarian in all aspects of library operations including the primary duties of reference work, cataloging, conservation, and the processing of collections. Duties will also include assisting in the preparation of web exhibits and in the training of volunteers. This permanent position is a great opportunity for someone interested in gaining experience in all areas of a research library. One to two years direct experience is desired, including knowledge of the proper handling of manuscripts, books, and photographs; the ability to work in a Microsoft Office environment; effective verbal and written communication skills; interest in American history; detail-oriented and organized. Course work in Library Science with a working knowledge of basic archival principles and practices is desired but not required. Salary: Salary based on qualifications and experience.
