Archivist  (2 positions)
The State Archives and Records Program, a work unit within the State Historical Society of Iowa, looks to hire two professional archivists to work with state of Iowa  government records. 

Duties will include:
*	Under direct to limited supervision, this position supports the efforts of the State Archives and Records Bureau in Des Moines to provide support to the State Records Commission, to encourage the identification and preservation of essential evidence in state agencies and to address records issues for records of state government throughout the life cycle of the record.

*	To identify, arrange, describe, catalog, and preserve state government records that have been transferred to the legal custody of the State Archives and Records Bureau so that they will be available for patron use in the State Historical Society of Iowa reading room.

*	To identify state government records so that permanently valuable records are preserved and made available for use in accord with the Code of Iowa and so that non-permanent records are retained for only as long as necessary and are destroyed in accord with records retention schedules established by the State Records Commission.  To serve as liaison between the State Archives and Records Bureau and state agencies in all matters related to state government records issues.   To assist state agencies in the development of new or revised  records series retention and disposition schedules to assure that administrative, legal, fiscal, and historical requirements are met so that the proposed records retention schedules can be forwarded for additional review and ultimately be considered by the State Records Commission.  

*	To serve as subject specialist to assist reference staff with detailed questions related to records in the custody of the State Archives of Iowa.  To participate in providing reference services to state agencies and to the general public in the State Historical Society of Iowa's reading room.  

*	To assist with the State Archives and Records Bureau educational outreach and technical assistance and training efforts to state agency audiences.

*	To participate in bureau and agency planning and program development and to perform such other duties as may be assigned by the State Archivist from time to time

Qualifications:  M.A. in history or related field with at least twelve semester hours of archives education credits (or a combination of education and experience to meet minimum criteria for classification) and two years full-time equivalent experience.  Applicants must fulfill State of Iowa requirements for a selective certification in archives:  a minimum of twelve semester hours of education, six months of experience, or a combination of both, or a specific certificate, license, or endorsement in archives.  Experience with government records and government records management as well as archives automation highly desired. 
  
This is a full-time position with appropriate State of Iowa benefits.  Starting salary: $39,145.60 plus benefits package.
