PROJECT ARCHIVIST NATIONAL EQUAL JUSTICE LIBRARY GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY LAW LIBRARY The Georgetown University Law Library is seeking an innovative and motivated Project Archivist to manage The National Equal Justice Library (NEJL). NEJL is a collection of published and unpublished material documenting the legal profession’s history of providing representation to those unable to afford counsel. Responsibilities: The Project Archivist is responsible for managing all aspects of the collection including record retention; processing of material; and providing reference assistance to users. Using knowledge of archival principles, the Project Archivist processes all material transferred to the collection, ensuring accessibility to and longevity of records; arranges and describes material, resulting in creation of inventories, finding aids and databases used to access records; and provides reference service to patrons in use of the collection. Responsible for implementing record restrictions when applicable, as well as ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive records. The position is also responsible for physical maintenance of the collection, including: retrieval and re-shelving of material from NEJL stacks; weeding of current backlogs; de-accessioning items outside the scope of retention policies; and preservation of fragile materials. The Project Archivist is responsible for creating and managing NEJL web pages. Required: Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science with a concentration in Archives or a certificate of archival studies or equivalent from a certified archival program; or a Master of Arts in American History with a concentration in archival studies. Two years experience arranging and describing archival and/or manuscript collections or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
