June 6 On this date in 2001, US President George W. Bush nominated Robert S.
Martin to be Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)
<http://www.imls.gov/>. Martin was the first librarian and archivist to head
the institute, which was created in 1996 to centralize funding for libraries
and museums. At the time of his appointment Martin was Professor and Interim
Director of the School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Woman's
University in Denton, Texas. Previously he served as Professor and Associate
Dean of Special Collections at Louisiana State University (1991-1995) and
Director and Librarian of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission
(1995 to 1999). Dr. Martin is a past president

on the locations and hours of NARA facilities to reflect the relocation of
