For you archivists who're looking to spiff up your archives  
buildings, here's what they have in Lisbon. Tell the directors you  
need something like this.

Approaching the Archivo Nacional you instantly see these four huge  
square things stuck on the top edge.

On a closer look, they're gargoyles, four on each end. I never saw  
gargoyles like this before.

I'm still amazed.

The building itself is magnificent: new, clean, full of technical  
wizardry. The people were very helpful.

They're open till 7:15 pm Monday through Friday and in the morning on  
Saturday.
