Fate of History Bibliographies in the Online Environment
2006 ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans
Monday June 26, 10:30 am - 12 noon
Morial Convention Center Room 294

In today's era of online indexes and electronic bibliographic
resources, is the traditional subject bibliography in print going the
way of the dinosaur? These guides to the literature have been a
mainstay in Reference Collections, covering subjects from the arcane
to current topics. Many librarians have found them to be lifesavers in
assisting students in a busy reference environment. But are libraries
still purchasing these sources and are librarians still using them? It
may be that subject bibliographies, typically limited to 240-500 print
runs, are no longer profitable in today's world of electronic
information. Are publishers still interested in acquiring and selling
these tools, even in electronic format?

Come hear representatives from major history publishers chat about
their acquisition policies regarding subject bibliographies in print
and/or in electronic format. A representative from H-Net will offer
perspectives regarding other possible venues for these resources.

Join in the discussion on the current and future fate of bibliographic
resources.
