The Archives of American Art has a potential short term summer position available for an Archives Technician at the Grade 5 level ($29,604) through the end of September, 2006. A currently enrolled student would be ideal. This position will assist with a comprehensive collections survey and assessment project and primarily be responsible for entering data from survey forms into a database. The person will also assist in setting up the database and conducting hands-on surveys of the collections - evaluating and rating the physical condition of the collections, the physical condition of the collections' housing, and the collections' levels of physical access (level of arrangement). Some of the work requires heavy lifting and will take place in storage environments. The position is located in the Smithsonian's Victor Building on 9th & H Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. This position will carry no benefits aside from annual and sick leave accruals.
