I tend to agree that it was out of line to post a private message on the 
listserv.  I think he made a mistake there.

However, the private email in question was WAY out of line.  There were 
explicit threats of professional sabotage in that message.  If the recipient 
has a lawyer, he might want to inquire the best way to keep that email for 
future reference.  If I received a message from a colleague threatening my 
career and livelihood, there's no way I'd blow it off and forget about it.

I've only posted on this listserv a couple of times, so perhaps my input is 
unwelcome intrusion by an 'outsider', but I've followed this discussion for 
a couple of days now and couldn't help developing an opinion.
