The Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of ACRL invite all
interested ALA attendees to attend its program, "Reimagineering Special
Collections: Building Designs and Considerations for the 21st Century"
at the ALA Annual Conference, New Orleans, Louisiana, Sunday, June 25,
2006 from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the Morial Convention Center (MCC), room
283-85. This program is co-sponsored by the Building and Equipment
Section (BES) of LAMA.

How will we house and use Special Collections in the 21st century? A
librarian, an administrator, and an architect will discuss various
factors influencing renovation and new construction of rare book and
manuscript libraries, including the availability of off-site storage
facilities, new technologies, and reduced allocations of space.

Issues that speakers will address include:
* innovations in security, HVAC, and other systems in Special
Collections within the last 5 years
* the steps involved in planning a renovation or new facility

Speaking on these topics will be:

* Janette Blackburn, Senior Associate, Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and
Abbott
* Pat Bozeman, Head, Special Collections, University of Houston
* Jeanne Hammer, Assistant Director for Finance & Administration, North
Carolina State University

We hope to see you there!
