Does anyone know what led NARA to modify the federal requirement for
Archivist positions? Was there lobbying to get NARA finally to recognize
archival training? If so, from whom? At the time, I saw the NARA revision as
an important step, a small to medium step, but still an important one.

And Maarja, if you were trying to suggest that perhaps I may have
overreacted to your message, well...OK...perhaps I did....

FYI, here are the federal requirements for an Archivist position as of
2006 http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/SEC-IV/B/GS1400/1420.asp . These
represent recent modification.
