The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) seeks an
Electronic Records Archivist (Business Systems Analyst I) to join the
Electronic Archives Section. The archivist will have an opportunity to
help build a growing program and will work as part of a team to process
and describe archival materials acquired by the Section as well as
digital collections reformatted in-house. The tasks will include
compiling descriptive metadata; working within the established
Electronic Archives graphical user interface framework to make materials
accessible to the public; and producing MARC records to be added to the
Department’s Ex Libris Aleph online catalog. The archivist will also
work with MDAH records management staff in the appraisal and scheduling
of state government records and advise government agencies on electronic
records management.
Minimum job qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an
accredited four-year college or university in library science,
information studies, archives/records management, or a related field;
and two (2) years of directly related experience OR an associate’s
degree from an accredited two-year college and four (4) years of
directly related experience.
Preferred qualifications include a graduate degree in library science,
information studies, or archives/records management; two (2) years of
archival and/or records management experience, including experience in
the appraisal and description of electronic materials; and strong
communication and writing skills. Knowledge of and experience with
HTML, the Dublin Core metadata standard, and MARC 21 would be
advantageous, as would familiarity with rights management, including the
Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
The starting annual salary for the position is $40,113.29 plus benefits,
increasing to $40,563.29 on January 1, 2007.
