Nashville Public Library ANNOUNCEMENT Librarian 1-Special Collections Digital Projects Librarian Grant-funded, non-civil service position Salary $36,619 Effective January 1, 2003, Metro requires as a condition of employment that all newly employed individuals, former employees that have been re-hired or employees promoted to a new classification will receive their paychecks by way of automatic direct deposit. Position Description: This position with the Nashville Public Library coordinates digital projects in the Special Collections Division and assists researchers and the general public at the Main Library in the use of special collections. Key responsibilities include, but are not restricted to: Developing, implementing, and maintaining digital projects, including multi-media virtual exhibits and displays for the Special Collections Center and content for the Special Collections Division’s website, CONTENTdm project, and database applications Assisting in developing policies and procedures for digital projects and the preservation of and access to digital resources, including intellectual access and copyright Providing reference services to the public by participating in staffing the division’s public service desk(s), by developing & maintaining knowledge of collections within the division; providing tours and instruction as needed Processing non-book collections, including the creation of finding aids and MARC records, in accordance with accepted professional standards Converting analog materials to digital format & selecting/ negotiating with vendors for preservation transfer of materials Demonstrating the ability to do original cataloging of special collection materials Assisting in the supervision of interns and volunteers Operating and instructing others in the operation of a variety of electronic equipment used in recording and providing access to audio, video, and digital collections Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university, experience working with digitization/digital projects. The Library Science degree must also be accredited by the American Library Association. No substitution.
