The University of South Carolina seeks an experienced archivist to work as part of a joint Movietone News project between USC and the Library of Congress (LC), Motion Picture, Broadcast and Recorded Sound Division.   This grant-funded position (full time, does not include benefits) will be located at the Library of Congress and expires June 30, 2007.  Extension beyond this date is possible pending additional funding. 
  
The archivist will report to the Director of the Newsfilm Library at USC and will work in conjunction with the Newsfilm and Library of Congress staff on a developing project between the two collections. 
  
Position Requirements:  MLIS or equivalent degree or experience.  Demonstrable experience archiving paper materials as well as some knowledge of moving image archiving*additional background in archiving corporate records is desirable. Demonstrable experience digitizing paper files. Excellent communication and written skills.  Knowledge of global and American history during the WWII period is preferred but not required.  Ability to work independent of direct supervision and willingness to travel as necessary between Columbia, SC and Washington, DC (expenses covered). 
  
Job Duties:  As part of a two person team at the LC, the archivist will be responsible for compiling data about the paper holdings of the Twentieth Century-Fox Movietone News collections and developing a findings list of the paper materials in the collection.  Additionally, the archivist will work on a proposed database of all the paper material from the WWII period (Dec. 1941 to Aug. 1945).
