Join an enthusiastic staff in building a research library of excellence 
for a young and rapidly-growing university ranked nationally in the top 
universities.

The University of California, Irvine Libraries is seeking a dynamic 
professional for the position of Archivist in the Department of Special 
Collections and Archives. The Archivist oversees the processing and 
management of all archival and manuscript collections, including 
appraisal, accessioning, preparation of processing plans, arrangement 
and description, and preservation of materials in all formats and 
collecting areas. The preferred appointment level will be within a range 
of $41,376 - $57,384 (Assistant Librarian II – Associate Librarian V.

Special Collections and Archives houses the UCI Libraries' collections 
of manuscripts and archives, rare books, and notable subject 
collections. The staff includes 5 librarians/archivists, 3 library 
assistants, and a variety of temporary and part-time positions, 
including students. Archival collecting areas of particular strength and 
distinction include regional history (emphasizing Orange County and 
Southern California), the Southeast Asian Archive (documenting the 
post-1975 diaspora from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos), the Critical 
Theory Archive (including the papers of Jacques Derrida, Wolfgang Iser, 
Paul de Man, and others), the University Archives (documenting the UC 
Irvine campus), dance and the performing arts (including the papers of 
choreographers Donald McKayle and Eugene Loring), and distinguished UCI 
faculty (including Frederick Reines, the 1995 Nobel Laureate in Physics).

The UCI Libraries, comprising the Langson Library, the Science Library 
and the Grunigen Medical Library, are committed to innovation and

collection consists of over 2.4 million volumes and over 26,500 current 
serial titles and an aggressively expanding electronic resources
