I've returned from an extended visit to the archives in Barcelona,
Madrid, Seville, and Lisbon.

Of them all, the best at digitization is Seville, and they only have
10% of their material on line.

The worst are the naval archives in both Spain and Portugal which are
uncared for and unused, because they have the records of Asian ships
to Europe, and nobody but me cares about that.

In both countries there's a solid infrastructure to find, care for,
and display these documents.

I'd be interested in hearing from the List on other's opinions and
knowledge of these documents.

I also visited the relevant libraries and more on that later.

Jim.
