Oui, but over the years it's been treated like a separate letter.  Filing systems even come with a separate "Mc" tab (or they used to) - and I have just wondered when that started.

Can't say when it started but I can when it ended: with the advent of the computer.  Computers don't put up with such linguistic idiosyncrasies, so "Mc" is right there between "Mb" and "Md," where it belongs!  ;-)
