Thanks to Lori Ann for the references. I've read both the documents mentioned below and now appreciate what the problems are with complex archives, as well as how they might be solved. Nice work, listmates. Is anyone aware of an attempt to take this system international? Or, is anyone aware of similar attempts in other countries? The age of sail - and trade from Europe to the Indies - is a perfect example of the wide range of stuff an archivist must deal with: from original documents and current physical status of the places mentioned, to underwater archaeology and macroeconometrics, there's a lot of pieces to each of these puzzles. Wooof. I never in a million years thought I'd be fascinated by Marion the Librarian. Thanks all and keep up the good work. * * * * * J B K * * * * * San Francisco On Jul 12, 2006, at 11:54 PM, Lori Ann Lindberg wrote: Dear Ashley, I suggest you surf to the Museums and the Online Archive of California (MOAC) project website, in particular, MOAC "Classic": http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/moac/ Robin Chandler's Introduction to the Report to IMLS (the grant funding agency) will give you a good overview of the use of EAD as one of the standards in the project, http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/moac/classic/reportintro.html as well as Rick Rinehart's excellent Report as the Project Director: http://www.bampfa.berkeley.edu/moac/classic/moacfinalreport.html Sincerely, Lori ____________________ Lori Lindberg, MLIS, CA Lecturer School of Library and Information Science San Jose State University One Washington Square San Jose, CA 95192 [log in to unmask] [log in to unmask] Ph.D. student Center for Information as Evidence Department of Information Studies Graduate School of Education and Information Studies University of California, Los Angeles [log in to unmask] A posting from the Archives & Archivists LISTSERV List sponsored by the Society of American Archivists, www.archivists.org.
