Thanks to Lori Ann for the references.

I've read both the documents mentioned below and now appreciate what
the problems are with complex archives, as well as how they might be
solved. Nice work, listmates.

Is anyone aware of an attempt to take this system international? Or,
is anyone aware of similar attempts in other countries?

The age of sail - and trade from Europe to the Indies - is a perfect
example of the wide range of stuff an archivist must deal with: from
original documents and current physical status of the places
mentioned, to underwater archaeology and macroeconometrics, there's a
lot of pieces to each of these puzzles. Wooof.

I never in a million years thought I'd be fascinated by Marion the
Librarian.

Thanks all and keep up the good work.

Dear Ashley,

I suggest you surf to the Museums and the Online Archive of
California (MOAC) project website, in particular, MOAC "Classic":

Robin Chandler's Introduction to the Report to IMLS (the grant
funding agency) will give you a good overview of the use of EAD as
one of the standards in the project,

as well as Rick Rinehart's excellent Report as the Project Director:
