Archivist

The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute seeks candidates for the full-time position of Archivist to oversee a grant funded two-year project to create and manage the Clark's institutional and special collections archives, as well as to introduce a records management program.  The Archivist reports to the Collections Management Librarian.

Primary responsibilities include development of archival guidelines, policies and procedures; conducting an inventory and appraisal of existing collections, and arranging, rehousing, and describing collections by creating collection-level records and appropriate finding aids utilizing relevant standards.  The Archivist will hire and supervise the work of a full-time Archives Assistant and a part-time Archives Intern.  The Archivist will also recommend a records management policy, participate in a building expansion planning process, and perform other similar duties as needed.

The successful candidate will possess a Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school, graduate training in archival and records management theory and practice or equivalent combination of education and experience; significant experience processing archival collections and demonstrated ability to appraise historical records; knowledge of relevant standards for archival description, including DACS/APPM, EAD and MARC; and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills.
