I think the items in the posting that Vivian responded to with a "you got that right" are givens. The problems that many of us face are budgets cut, positions not filled because of budget cuts making the staff cover their responsibilities and those of vacant positions, not enough funds to order material, the list goes on. Add to that supervisors not qualified for their positions, employees forced upon a department because their mother works for the provost, you all get the picture. Having listed all of the above, it is important that the people in charge make a greater effort to recognize the extra effort that the staff puts in to cover the vacant jobs, work with out the tools and supplies they need, etc. It is amazing what people will do in spite of the problems they face in the work place if what they do is recognized.
