I believe the names and SS#s of deceased persons
are available in the online Social Security Death Index in a matter of weeks. I found entries for persons who died in May 2006
there.
A message I read on the listserv stated, "retain the originals until such
time as they can be safely provided
to researchers." What is the proper
amount of time before orginal documents with SS#s on them can be
released for research purposes without fear of damaging the integrity of the
collection and the donor's reputation?
Thanks,
