I'm writing the list to see if anyone can help me with this query. Locally we are embarking on a long-shot research project to identify British and Spanish soldiers and civilians who died in Pensacola in the 1700-1820 period. In looking at the Hojas de Servicios Militares de America, Anos 1785-1815 (Papers of Military Service in America) on microfilm from the Archivo General de Simancas, we have been unable to find a single record where the soldier is listed as dead or died. These records show enlistment, age, promotions, regimientos they served in, and where in America...their height, color, health, etc. but are strangely silent on death. Is anyone on the list familiar enough with these military service records to tell me if we're Looking at the wrong kind of record or what? :D Dean Dean DeBolt University Librarian, Special Collections John C.
