Good morning everyone,

I need to call upon your expertise on something. The New York State
Archives is currently creating the metadata standards for our digital
images and one of the elements we're working on is the Digital
Specifications element taken from the latest format of CDP Metadata
Working Group on Dublin Core Metadata best practices. We're trying to
think ahead ten to fifteen years down the road when new computer
programs are up and trying to determine what kinds of information will
be useful to the Digital Imaging Archivist or the Electronic Records
Archivist at that time to preserve the image in the format we are
creating today. Do we need to give the hardware, software and operating
system that the image was created on? Should we include the spatial
resolution, the quality of bit depth and the compression of the image?
We're trying to find the median between too much information and enough
information to maintain the image in years to come.

We've also examined the Arizona Memory Project, Michigan's Dublin Core
elements, Dublin Core, and NARA.

Could you offer any advice on what kind of information, if there is
any, that should be recorded about the creation of the image? Any advice
you could offer would be wonderful. Thank you so much for your time and
have a wonderful weekend!

Best,

Emily Southworth
