Hi all,

I'm offering this on behalf of a fellow library employee, the son of the man who wrote the diary.

The diary is a single, small gray book stamped United States Navy on the cover, with various notations from the U.S.S Pretoria.

Entries have month and day, but not usually the year. The diary was used up until November of 1919, by John S. Hansen. He was born in Canada, but later became an American. Hansen was a Chief Petty Officer, and his rank is noted as CMM (Chief Machinist's Mate); most of the entries have to do with maintaining the mechanics of the ship, no chat.

If you think you could give this diary a good home, contact me. We are happy to send it along for the cost of postage.

Jeanette
